Why we built Lisa.
About 4.5 million people in the UK work for themselves. If that's you, you're also the receptionist, the bookkeeper and the debt collector.

We run an accountancy practice in Doncaster, and many of the people we work with are tradespeople and sole traders: plumbers, sparkies, builders, cleaners. They're brilliant at their work. What wears them down is everything around it: the calls they can't answer on a job, the invoices written at the kitchen table, chasing money they've already earned, and a tax bill that always seems to land as a surprise.
None of them can afford to hire someone to do all that. So we built the someone. Lisa is the admin person a small business can't afford to hire. She answers, books, invoices, chases and puts the tax aside, and you talk to her like you'd talk to a person.
Because she comes out of an accountancy practice, the money side is done properly: worked out by code to HMRC's rules, never guessed.
The rules she works by.
She never guesses a number.
Every figure comes from your own records, worked out by code to HMRC's rules. If she doesn't know, she asks.
She always says she's your assistant.
Your customers know they're texting Lisa from your business.
She asks before anything new.
You approve bookings and messages until you're happy for her to get on with it.
She stays quiet unless it matters.
No daily nagging. If there's nothing worth saying, she doesn't say it.
She doesn't replace your accountant.
She gets your books ready for them, tidy and up to date.
She doesn't do financial advice.
Investments, pensions, mortgages and insurance need a regulated adviser, and she'll say so.
Starting small, on purpose.
Lisa is in a pilot with tradespeople in Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley. Each one sets her up in the app in a couple of minutes, and we watch what they use every week. That's what we build next.
If you'd like to be one of them, the form's just below.
